Past Future

I was hearing about this Time travel a lot now-a-days. Not that it was ever spoken before, but it is the topic of the month among my friends. So, thus this blog is all about it.

I was wondering, if someone in future invents a time machine and bring that time machine to yesterday then there will be a change happening in yesterday that we will come to know today. So history becomes news! For that matter past becomes future. If this continues then our perception of viewing past, present, future will change. We no longer have just past, present and future. We may need to have past, present, future, pastfuture and presentfuture. So children may need to study history and news-history!

I was wondering if at all there can be pastpresent, futurepast and futurepresent? I couldn't think of a scenario that could give raise to these through time travel. So, what kind of travel do we need to have pastpresent, futurepast and futurepresent?!

I stumbled across somewhere (I don't remember the reference) that if a star is say 1 million light years away from earth. If we look at the star that means we are actually witnessing something happening 1 million years from now. Does that sound like futurepresent?

If we are 1 million light years from that star, then we are witnessing something that happened in the star 1 million light years before. Does this sound like pastpresent?

I still couldn't find anything about futurepast. Any help?

Believe in people

I am working for this giant S/W Company. One of its major clients requires all new joinees to its project to have background check. Unless the back ground check is cleared, the company cannot assign its employee to this client's projects.

I have been working with this client for around 6 odd years. During that time the background check was not required. I recently moved to new location for the same project I have been working all along. The new policy says if there is any change in project/location then BGC need to be done again. Though it looks extremely stupid, I understand that if a person got out of the project and joined back after a long time this clause make sense.

In my case the poor insane souls, sitting there naming themselves as security leads (security guard may be appropriate!), want me to go through the BGC procedure before I touch any system in the new location. I would have happily said yes, but before that I asked how long will it take to complete? The reply was, minimum two weeks. Come on I say, for God sake, I will forget what I was working on by then!

I wonder, don't they know this already before sending me to the new location? Can't they start the process when I was in old location itself? I asked them, if they can do it in parallel while am working on the project. The answer was as expected a no. I told them I am working for the same client for more than 6 yrs and you have all records for that, I never took any break from this client to work for another, moreover you already did BGC once last year when the policy changed so why don't you allocate me a pc and do other formalities in parallel. It took them sometime to come back and say they couldn't find the BGC documents. I now wonder what good the BGC holds if they lose it! How will it matter whether they do it or not if they can't retrieve the information back?

This company boasts itself of becoming one among the Global top companies. If, by chance, they ever become one and was awarded a certificate by the governing body saying its numero uno company in the world and by chance, they lose the certificate (given the above scenario it is quite possible!). I wonder, if they are going to work from scratch to again become global no 1 company!!!!!!

Hey if that happens, am I supposed to be proud of being part of a Global number 1 company? Remember the company doesn't evaluate a person based on what he did to the organization nor how long he worked all it cares is some electronic document, which the security lead was not able to retrieve!

Height of all, this organization’s marketing strategy says if you want to be a part of an organization that believes in its people, please walk in with your CV!!!!

Maya

I am fondling with this VMWare and Virtual PC tool for sometime now. After introduction of Intel Core / Dual Core processors, the virtualizations are not a fiction in desktop environment. Yes with a 2GB RAM, I can run 4 different OS simultaneously allocating each of them 512MB RAM and of course all 4 of them will rum smoothly! My scribble here is not about what virtualization is or how it works. Get lost in virtual world!

If I run 4 OS on my laptop simultaneously and essential all 4 of them are same (for instance Windows XP), I wonder do I need to buy 4 licensed copy of Windows XP? What about the duplicate software I install on them? Do they need different licenses as well? Whether I really buy genuine softwares or not is totally a different beast in itself (Patent cautious readers might get hurt!). Let us not discuss it here :)

Now, did I hear someone asking why would I ever require 4 of same OS running on same PC? I might want to learn networking with all these OS in the same laptop without buying extra hardware! For that mater a training institute will install remote desktop for a particular OS and allow its students to access the OS simultaneously, the application of virtualization is limit less.

Back to the original discussion, if I already have a single processor license, won't it suffice? Or is this a loophole to bend laws governing licensing? What if the software providers don’t have a user based licensing system at all in place? Things get complicated when we ask more question, won't you say?
